5 questions for Bleachrs

THIS MIDRAND-BORN ARTIST INTRODUCES A FRESH SOUND AND PERSPECTIVE TO HIP-HOP

Bleachrs is a trap artist who started out as a published poet. Her trap-flavoured EP, Once Clip, incorporates indigenous languages such as Setswana and isiXhosa and a bouncy new-wave sound, all while laying out hard-hitting sixteens.

How long have you been making music, and how did it start for you?

I have been recording music for a year and a few months. I had written a few songs in high school and made songs for fun with friends. I intended to start recording music seriously, but just never got ‘round to doing it. I then met Moëtt, an amazing producer, and recorded a song for fun with him and friends. After I had recorded my verse, Moëtt suggested that I return and record seriously. I returned a few days later and have made many songs since.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would you choose and why?

I would collaborate with Blxckie, of course. He is extremely versatile, so the possibilities are endless in terms of how a collaboration would sound. His pen game also goes crazy.

What is your proudest achievement to date?

My proudest achievement to date is dropping my EP, One Clip, and performing at Cotton Fest this year which was such a privilege.

Which artist is, in your opinion, is the GOAT?
