Pharrell Williams takes over menswear at Louis Vuitton

French fashion brand Louis Vuitton has named prolific Grammy-winning producer, rapper, singer and songwriter Pharrell Williams (49) as its new menswear creative director.

Luxury fashion house Louis Vuitton announced that hip-hop artist Pharrell Williams has been appointed as its new head of menswear. This news comes after a long vacancy of the role formerly occupied by the “King of Streetwear” and Off-White founder, Virgil Abloh, who tragically lost his battle with cancer in November 2021.

In a public statement, Louis Vuitton shared the exciting news: “Louis Vuitton is delighted to welcome Pharrell Williams as its new Men’s Creative Director, effective immediately. His first collection for Louis Vuitton will be revealed this June during the Men’s Fashion Week in Paris.”

Louis Vuitton’s Chairman and CEO Pietro Beccari further stated:

“I am glad to welcome Pharrell back home, after our collaborations in 2004 and 2008 for Louis Vuitton, as our new Men’s Creative Director. His creative vision beyond fashion will undoubtedly lead Louis Vuitton towards a new and very exciting chapter.”

Categorised as the epitome of a multi-disciplinary artist, Williams has flexed his skills – rapping, singing, songwriting, executive production and creative direction – to the world for over two decades. This prolific musician and fashion icon has won 13 Grammy Awards, including three for Producer of the Year. He has also previously teamed up with other fashion brands for individual lines, including Diesel, Chanel, Moncler and Adidas.

This isn’t Williams’ first rodeo with the French luxury fashion house. In 2008, he embarked on a partnership with Louis Vuitton under Marc Jacobs, Creative Director at the time, for a jewellery and sunglasses line.

In 2016, Williams was named co-owner of the jeans brand G-Star Raw. He also co-founded the Japanese clothing brand Billionaire Boys Club.
