#BEAUTYOFBLEND WITH BRIAN SATHEKGE

So, model and founder of OFFMANKIND, Brian Sathekge is our new #BeautyOfBlend highlight (in collaboration with our Tullamore D.E.W. family) that finds us throwing some questions at him that briefly touch on his thoughts on the benefits of cultures merging in SA and how he applies the concept of “blending” in what he does… And just like we’ve mentioned in our previous drops, these quick spotlights were created in order for us to reach out to a select few of SA’s diverse creatives and swiftly pick their brains on how impactful it would be if the concept of “blending” was not only applied within cultures found in Mzansi but their respectful arts as a way of progressing society upwards… With that said, here’s Brian.

I’m able to incorporate all those cultures and just create my own, my own space.

Let’s start off by you telling the people who you are and what you do.

I’m Brian Sathekge, I’m a model and founder of OFFMANKIND.

What experiences have you had of cultures or different backgrounds coming together that have positively influenced your creative process?

Like I took from all of them and I’m able to just create from that. So from it being a Venda culture or a Ndebele culture, “I’m able to incorporate all those cultures and just create my own.. my own space.”

So, what do you think the benefits would be for SA if more cultures, artistic styles, genres and communities were blended?

People just understanding each other… Like beliefs, different beliefs, and different cultures. They’ll respect… They’ll be able to respect the next culture.

And what weird methods have you implemented into your art/designs that have resulted in something great?

We take coach material, we take curtain material and we make clothes with it… So that is like crazy for us. You just blend whatever it is that you feel makes sense. Like if you see it, you can see it.
