Last week SA’s leading street wear retailer, sportscene, kicked off the fourth edition of their Put Me On (PMO) music competition. This initiative, which is sponsored by PUMA South Africa, is said to aim to once again find and develop the country’s next rising star. Entries for the competition are now open and will close on 21 September 2021. Artists can head to the sportscene Studio website to submit their music and details for the competition.
Its also said that PMO has proven to be a main attraction on the youth and creative culture calendar with the competition receiving over 4000 entries in 2020. Last year’s winner, Trusted SLK, received a huge boost in her career working with Tweezy to create her hard hitting single ‘Uyathetha’. The track was accompanied with a creative music video which racked up over 20 000 views. By winning the competition she also gained plenty of tools to build her brand and take it to the next level. Other notable PMO participants include 2020’s Kiki X Chucky, Chaise Williams, Julezus and Zcasm and 2019’s winner Lucasraps, alongside Costa Titch, KashCPT and Indigo Stella, who have all gone on to have successful careers in the music industry.
We are thrilled to see how Put Me On has grown to become a force in SA. As Sportscene, we’re passionate about investing in authentic talent and are really excited to be partnering with Def Jam Africa, giving the winner of Put me on 2021 a platform to elevate their music career. Put Me On is our contribution to growing the local music industry and our way of giving back to the culture.”- sportscene’s Senior Marketing Coordinator, Bianca Kensley
This year’s winner will walk away with a 2 singles record deal with Def Jam Recordings Africa, produced by hit-maker Zoocci Coke Dope, professional music video production, 6 months of PR & marketing support, R25 000 in cash and PUMA merchandise worth R50 000.
Shouneez Willhelm, Head of the label expressed her feelings about PMO by saying “We are super excited to collaborate with Sportscene.
