Premium cognac brand, Rémy Martin partnered with Riky Rick in June to search for South Africa’s hottest up-and-coming producer. Now after a long period of deliberation, they’re ready to reveal their Johannesburg top five. Rémy Producers, the music platform that has been taking the US by storm, landed in South Africa with a bang, and has continued to build momentum after more than 2 000 entries from budding producers were submitted.
“It has been incredible to listen to the kind of beats we have been receiving”, says Riky Rick, who with his right-hand man, Master A Flat, have been working tirelessly to select Johannesburg’s best beats. “South Africa is mad talented and cutting down the finalists to get to the greatest beats hasn’t been easy,” he continues. “We’ve heard everything from Maskadi to Afropop, Kwaito and Gqom and we’re confident we’ve selected the right five.”
In no particular order, the Rémy Producers Johannesburg top five producers are:
Phelemo Phalane @nxstalgia.4
Dennis Masilo @prxfnd
Vhutshilo Ndlovu @Infrallectual
Mashoto Mokoba @mash_o_sa
Anda Macuna @theaudioanda
These rising producers have spent the last few days in studio with Riky Rick and Master A Flat, and will tomorrow (Friday, 26th July), get the chance to perform their own original beat in front of a live audience at the Rémy Producers Johannesburg regional final, taking place at Taboo. The producer with the best beat will walk away with a spot in the grand finale, taking place in September.
Speaking about the upcoming regional events, which will be taking place in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town over the next month, Jerome Adonis, Rémy Martin Marketing Manager said, “We’re looking forward to seeing some raw talent, and for these producers to simply be themselves.”
The grand finale will see the top producer from each city battle it out for a once-in-a-lifetime prize, a chance to work with Riky Rick and co-sign on a track with him. Only one producer can win this coveted prize.
