How Cardi B’s ‘Bodak Yellow’ Debut Single Hit #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100

In the middle of June Cardi B released her debut single with Atlantic called ‘Bodak Yellow’ which was inspired by Kodak Black’s 2014 hit song ‘No Flockin’. The record got her some attention and only one week after its release, ‘Bodak Yellow’ broke through the Billboard Hot 100 and debuted at No. 85. Crazy…In August ‘Bodak Yellow’ broke the top 20, moving up to No.14 on the Hot 100 Chart. Then mid August ‘Bodak Yellow’ made it to Top 10, jumping from No. 14 to No. 8 in just one week. In September ‘Bodak Yellow’ went gold and  September 2nd found ‘Bodak Yellow’ getting the No.3 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Mid September the song was No. 2 spot and then the co-sings started piling up up, co-signs from the likes of Janet Jackson who incorporated the joint into a choreographed dance routine.  Rihanna also posted a clip of the song to her Instagram, featuring a young toddler bumping to ‘Bodak Yellow’. Then J. Cole also took to social media to send a shout out to ‘Bodak Yellow’ and Cardi. However Yesterday found ‘Bodak Yellow’ get the No.1 spot making it the biggest song in America right now. It’s also the first song to claim #1 by a -solo- female rapper since Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)” in 1998. Crazy
