King Kendrick has been declared a Generational Icon for his artistic, charitable and community work over the past couple of years. Lamar was honoured by the State senate an official icon recently for his exceptional work in his community.
After dropping Good kid, M.A.A.D City and To Pimp A Butterfly this is what the senator had to say. “In less than ten years as a professional artist, Mr. Lamar has gone from a local Compton young boy to become multi-platinum, Billboard chart topping, two-time Grammy award winning musician,” Hall spoke proudly in his opening speech.
The Compton native seemed more than humbled by his recognition after he was commended on the hundreds of thousands of dollars he had donated to charity. “It’s definitely an honor to be right here in front of you guys being from the city of Compton and knowing the parks that I played at and neighborhoods, I always thought how great the opportunity would be to give back to my community.”
First Kanye is awarded a doctorate and now Kendrick is an icon. Nice to see hip hop playing its part in shedding some positivity on this weird little world of our.
