Earl Sweatshirt is Thinking of Coming Back To South Africa

As many of you will know, Odd Future‘s Tyler the Creator is born to a Nigerian father. As a few less may know, his childhood friend and fellow lethal lyricist Earl Sweatshirt is also born to an African parent. South African, in fact. And with a real name like Thebe Kgositsile, there is no mistaking that.

His father is  Keorapetse Kgositsile , a South African poet and political activist who left the family when Thebe was six years old. Earl has referenced in as a “dead beat dad” in his music on a few occasions, but has also expressed curiosity and respect for his “homeland.”

Two weeks ago the Odd Future emcee teased his SA fans with a tweet that could be serious or just a frivolous impulse.

Earl

Everyone has had about enough of the “I’m back in the motherland” stuff but for what it’s worth we hope he’s serious because he is stupid talented and Odd Future performances are insane.
