The hip hop community is in mourning today upon the news of the passing of Steven Rodriguez, better known as ASAP YAMS.
Yams is the founder of the ASAP Mob movement and was extremely instrumental in crafting the sound of crew leader, ASAP Rocky, as well as acquiring the record deal for ASAP WORLDWIDE that made the clan an internationally recognised imprint.
A mentor, friend and partner to Lord Flacko since 2008, his death has hit the entire community pretty hard with condolences from the likes of Wiz Khalifa, Immortal Technique, Drake, Hit Boi, Vince Staples and Mac Miller, among others, pouring in on social networks.
Though Yams, 26 years old, has had a dark history with drug abuse, even spending the summer of 2014 in rehab to control his addiction, crew member ASAP Ant spoke to Vlad TV and denied the rumours that Xanax and codeine were the cause of Yam’s death.
