Fresh off his 3 week European tour, it seems that international success doesn’t get much better than for Tumi Molekane. While some are on a mission to conquer their city (nevermind their country or continent) MCs like Tumi are proudly waving the SA flag high on international stages with some of the best performers in the world.
The World Music Institute has invited Tumi to perform on the Africa Now! Main stage event at The Apollo Theater, New York City on Saturday, 11th October 2014 (the same day as our 10 year anniversary party at Zen in Newtown – get yo tickets now!) marking this as his first USA stop. He’ll be debuting new material from his third album R‘ (yo what happened to Rob The Church?) ” which will drop this coming October. With a full live band alongside the likes of The Soil & Simphiwe Dana, this auspicious occasion will be hosted by Hugh Masekela.
“To be performing at The Apollo Theater as my first show in America is crazy, this has been the cultural hub of the black diaspora for decades. I am honored and excited,” says Tumi.
The Apollo Theater Legends Hall of Fame has inducted such renowned performers and music-industry figures such as Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Billie Holiday, Sammy Davis Jr., James Brown & The Famous Flames, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Dionne Warwick, Bobby Short, The Jackson 5, Patti LaBelle, Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross, Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, The Isley Brothers, Lauryn Hill, Jazmine Sullivan, Ne-Yo, Machine Gun Kelly, James Brown, Little Richard, Smokey Robinson, Billy Eckstine, Quincy Jones and Chaka Khan.
