When news broke that Danny Brown was coming to SA, you can guess how many new school headz went crazy! Not that he doesn’t appeal to the old school headz, but it’s the newer generation of fans that are more open to futuristic raps coupled with retro styling, high energy and techno inspired beats. Danny Brown got that original funk, that swagger like funk, and it made the crowd shook when he stopped in SA, Walter Sisulu Hall in Kliptown, Soweto, for the adidas Originals Unite Joburg event on 15 November.
About 2,000 exclusive guests got to witness the magic of Detroit MC Danny Brown live along with his DJ SKYWLKR and a line up of stellar local talent. The crowd response was off the chain, with even the gents responding to Brown, which a rare characteristic. The atmosphere was beautiful, the fashion was on a high end futuristic tip, the venue wasn’t too packed or overcrowded. Overall it was laid back, calm and interactive as it was electrifying. And the icing on the cake came in the form of Scrambles4Money, who ran a battle circuit on the night where the prize money was serious moola.
After coming down from his high, he was treated to a tour of Joburg CBD, PTA & Soweto, before returning to his home town of Detroit, Michigan. For more on Danny Brown and adidas Originals be sure to catch the Feb/Mar issue of HYPE!
