Who is KayGizm?
Kgaugelo Goodchild Choabi, widely known as KayGee Of Morafe, is a singer, songwritter, performer, recording artist and producer. Born on the 25th May 1979 in Venda, KayGizm grew up in Mafikeng alongside Khuli Chana. From his childhood days he always listened and sang to the smooth sounds of musicians like Teddy Pendergrass, Stevie Wonder, and Peabo Bryson to name a few. KayGizm always knew he could sing and an interest in pursuing music came in the early 90’s when Khuli Chana and KayGizm decided to start a band. They became a duo going by the name of Jazzzadaz and started writing Hip Hop songs with KayGizm teaching Khuli Chana how to rap. Singing is a skill that was second nature to KayGizm as he would write and sing on all the songs produced by the two.
In 1995 Morafe was born, with Lerothodi “Towdeemac” and Mr. Mo Molemi. It was decided that Kaygizm was bringing something unique to the music and that is when he focused more on singing and song writing as his skill. KayGizm has now released his first single, “Two Hands” featuring Merldy B, produced by Victory, with a fresh video on YouTube. KayGizm’s debut album, which is not yet to be titled, will be released early next year.
What does Maftown Heights mean to you?
Before Morafe came into the scene, we always used to dream, dreams of Motswako being on big stages, being global and being one of the biggest genres in the world. As ambitious as that sounds, with a brand like Maftown Heights as a platform for Motswako to show off and shine, it is looking more and more a reality that we will realise in less than a minute. I personally think that Maftown Heights is the best thing that ever happened to Motswako and it could not have come at a better time.
What don’t people know about KayGizm?
I used to rap. I wrote rhymes for Khuli Chana too. I would write my verse, the chorus, as well as Khuli Chana’s verse, and then take him through it and then the bridge etc… as the song would go. It took Khuli Chana a few weeks to start doing his thing…
