THE BEST THING EVER: DJ SABBY!

Multitalented, Believes Hip Hop Plays a role in society & Prefers Weezy over Drake.

Sabelo Mtshali, a.k.a DJ Sabby “The Best Thing Ever” is a young dude (22) quickly making his mark in the entertainment/media industry. This Aries Radio Dj, Club Dj and TV Presenter is an Idea Generator, Music A&R for Eben Music, an Online Creative, MC and upcoming Business Man with his goals set to be achieved!

A Radio Dj at YFM 99.2, Sabby hosts a weekend show called “The Adrenaline Rush” (12:00-03:00). One can also catch him on Sundays (21:00-00:00). Sabby is also a Host of a Youth Game Show on SABC 1, called Bonisanani which airs at 06:30am on Sundays.
In one word, Sabby describes the industry as Competitive!

Currently managing the Eben Music Brand in South Africa (which is a major recording label in West Africa, from Benin to Gabon and beyond), Sabby’s main artist is Giovanni who is said to be a killer artist to look out for. Sabby also does online creative work, from developing websites, analyzing social media for brand activation and being in tune with the latest news in the world. He is a man of many hats. For Sabby, radio compared to TV is more personal and instant more than anything else. While on the other hand, TV is more packaged compared to radio.

HIP HOP STILL RELEVANT?
Hip Hop will forever have a role in our society; it’s not as edgy and rough as it was before though. Rappers are more commercial than being true to themselves. This could be record labels’ faults as they try to follow worldwide trends. But at the end of the day, rappers that speak truth and are honest to themselves will never sell that much. Look at what happened with Slikour, most of the things he says on the record “Blacks R Fools” are true, but the truth never gets you airplay in South Africa and when radio and TV don’t play your ish, it doesn’t move on the shelf.

WEEZY OR DRAKE?
I’ll go for Weezy! Weezy is a rapper that has been on the streets and fought his way up the ranks to be named amongst some of the greatest rappers alive. His material has shared some of his life experiences and I appreciate that in his craft and delivery. Drake is just an angry artist with a lot of emotional baggage, as time unfolds I guess we will eventually understand who Drizzy is. No doubt I think he changed the game a bit by showing MCs that being soft aint bad and sales did prove him right.

INDUSTRY ROLEMODELS?
I look up to Ryan Seacrest – I think the fact that he has reached a level of TV and Radio success that most people would consider the peak, he keeps going and pushing more boundaries. I really think he is cool. In South Africa, Bonang Matheba and Proverb are some of the people I look up to in the game.

LAST WORDS…
You as good as your last show!!
