Drake has just been named the best-selling recording artist of 2016 by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry. This means that Drake is the fourth recipient of the IFPI’s Global Recording Artist of the Year Award, which apperently accounts for an artist’s worldwide sales in both physical and digital formats as well as streams.
“Drake’s phenomenal success reflects how deeply his unique sound appeals to an enormous global audience. The Global Top 10 list features a number of amazing artists, and the variety and vibrancy of their art speaks volumes about the exciting state of music today.” – FPI chief executive Frances Moore
Considering all of the records he broke in 2016, this new honor truly comes as no surprise. Remember Drake’s Views album scored up over 1 billion streams on Apple Music and surpassed 3 billion plays on Spotify last year. Major!
